Pigmentation & Sun Damage

Pigmentation & Sun Damage

Skin discoloration due to excess melanin production, often resulting from UV exposure or hormonal changes. Sun damage accelerates skin ageing and uneven tone.

Cause

  • Sun exposure (UV-induced melanin production).
  • Hormonal shifts (pregnancy, contraceptive use).
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne or injury.

Symptoms

  • Hyperpigmentation: Dark spots or patches.
  • Melasma: Larger, symmetrical patches, often on the cheeks and forehead.
  • Sunspots (solar lentigines): Small brown spots on exposed areas.
  • Photoageing: Wrinkles, coarse texture, and skin laxity from UV damage.
