Acne Scarring

Acne Scarring

Acne scarring occurs when severe acne damages the deeper layers of the skin, leaving permanent textural changes or discoloration.

Cause

  • Inflammatory acne that disrupts the skin's natural healing process.
  • Overproduction or underproduction of collagen during healing.

Symptoms

  • Atrophic scars: Depressed scars (ice pick, boxcar, or rolling).
  • Hypertrophic scars: Raised, thick scars often on the chest or back.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark marks, especially in darker skin tones.
